Gary O. and his very well equipped M17 have spent the past 12 years together and are home ported in Arizona. Some of the photos are from the 2007 Arizona yacht club birthday regatta. Both photos feature Jerry Montgomery while the shot at right shows Gary, Jerry and Sean Mulligan.

The boat has had the transom hull deck joint repaired (original joint fractured due to monstrous OB motor riding around on the transom!).

Cabin windows have been replaced with tempered glass. All fittings rebedded.

Mast replaced with a new Ballenger Spars 'tall rig' per the original design dimensions.
Spreaders were changed to fixed thru-bar tapered airfoil, internal halyards, fixed gooseneck, t-ball terminals, and hinge plate mast step with organizer plate.

The mast itself is a somewhat 'D-section' and tempered to a harder # hoping for a stiff section. Currently the rig is setup with single upper shrouds and double lower shrouds, this configuration is NOT written in stone, I am thinking I will go back to the original (read -correct as designed) rig with single lowers.

The boom is a highly massaged tube with large holes machined into it to lighten it, internal single line reefing, internal outhaul, Boomkicker, and the obligatory Port and Starboard stickers. Mainsheet is 4:1 split tail mainsheet as found on some C-15's and Snipes. Works great. No traveler... K. I. S. S boom is centered when sheet is in... vang controls twist.

Speed/Log/Timer is handled by a Brookes and Gatehouse Network unit - the transducer is thru-hull on the centerline ahead of the ballast keel. (tape those paddlewheels when zipping down the highway!)
Battery is a castoff aircraft sealed 25ah 12V mounted in a new fiberglass pan as close to the centerline as possible, Blue Sea battery disconnect, and voltage regulator for Solarex 10 watt panel that is hardwired (stored under v-berth when not in use).

Rudder is fiberglass over foam semi-elliptical from an unnamed manufacturer, very nice foil shape but VERY heavy. No flex at all. I love the rudder on a M-17, vertically retracting - great idea.
Halyards, reefline, and cunningham lead to the top of house and back to Spinlock XAS stoppers, All stainless parts have been polished by Fernandos Hideaway House of Shiny Metal.

Hatch wood and hatch guides have been replaced with Starboard material, hatchboards are OEM old (uuugggly). Hatch ribs are laminated white oak. Running lights have been set up on aluminum risers to clear the bowplate and on the stern to face horizontal, aluminum parts are powder coated.
The trailer has had middle bunk supports added.

Like all sailboats... she will always be a work in progress. There will be something to try or maintenance to perform; the hull color, 28 year old hatch boards and vinyl interior cushions are on the list to be taken care of - Someday.
