Begin by moving the boat back far enough on the trailer to provide CenterBoard access. Using jacks, lift the boat shoring it with wood as you go higher to make it safe to work around and under the hull. The Bunk Boards on NS Dinky are being replaced, so she is being lifted to clear then entire trailer which is not necessary if you are working on just the CenterBoard. In the above photos you can see the old CB and the new one special ordered from Montgomery Boats. It appears most of the damage to the CB was caused because the CB extends a little past the CB keel trunk and rests heavily on a roller and metal crossmember on the trailer.
Randy explains; "We used 2 X 6 clear Redwood (Home Depot) boards 10 foot long to fabricate the Bunks. The covering was purchased from a marine supply and is designed for bunks. It comes 11 inches wide in various colors and is sold by the foot in presized rolls. A tip from the MSOG E-mail Forum suggested a layer of closed cell foam between the Bunks and the carpet to assist the lapstrake hull to make better contact with the bunks. Stainless steel staples were used to attach the foam and carpet to the Bunks and the holes where the bolts go through were countersunk so as not to damage the hull. The project came out fine."
